The Problem:

  1. I needed to use wildcard dns settings (ie. *.computerconsulting.ca).  This is not a problem with BIND, but I'm using Windows 2000's DNS server.  I tried various things, but nothing would work.  The Solution.

The Solution:

Thanks to "Ask Mr. DNS", here is the solution:

  1. Right-click on the domain name in the list of domains and choose "New Domain".  Type in "*" (without the quotes, of course) in the pop-up box.
  2. Select the new sub-folder that was created, called *.
  3. Right-click it and choose "New Host".
  4. Enter the IP address to associate with the wildcard domain. Leave everything else blank.
